Tutorial Assignment 6

This assignment was to design infographics. Infographics are, according to wikipedia, the visual representations of data, knowledge and/or information. The main thing about infographics is to carry a message the viewers things through pictorial representation instead of plain text.

I was inspired to create the infographic below, when a family member asked me how to use the camera functio in the iPhone she had just bought without reading the manual. The sheer amount of text in the manual put her off to the extent. That is when I came up with the idea of doing an infographical version of the section of the manual giving instructions on the camera function. It may be like a pictorial instruction sheet, but it still fulfils the basic purpose of being a representation of knowledge, in this case, the knowledge of using the camera function in the iPhone. The below is the first version.

There were issues with the above infographic. It lacked a title to introduce people as to what is it about, and it was suggested that the infographics might turn out to be better if the steps were more obvious than arrows that went zigzag.

The below picture is the revised version.

Some changes have been done, including arranging the different steps in a grid-like manner, and making the arrows squiggly. the steps have been numbered, and a little more "conversation" from the iPhone to make things more interesting for viewers that would typically be turned off by a wordy manual. Instead of a finger pointing at the camera button, the camera button has been magnified, and the rest of the iPhone faded out for more clarity.
